Therapy

The therapists at Hillcrest Psychology provide evidence-based treatment including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and integrative and psychodynamic approaches to meet each client’s unique situation and individual needs. Parental involvement is encouraged.

Parent-Based Intervention

There are times when a child is not ready or willing to participate in therapy and is struggling and would benefit from help. For cases like these we can also provide parent-based support and/or intervention. We can provide guidance on how to support changes and growth in your child. One way we do this is by teaching strategies to work through symptoms of anxiety or low mood, offering solutions for managing difficult behaviors, or coaching parents on how to prepare for and facilitate major transitions for their children.

Psychological & Psychoeducational Assessments

We offer a variety of Psychological and Psychoeducational assessments for:

✓ Learning Disabilities
✓ Developmental Disabilities
✓ Autism Spectrum Disorder

✓ Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
✓ Mood and Anxiety Disorders

Psychoeducational Assessment

Through the use of clinical interviews, observation, cognitive and academic testing, self and observer report questionnaires, and a review of documents such as report cards and medical records, it is determined if a diagnosis may be appropriate (e.g., attention deficit disorder). The Assessment report includes a comprehensive set of recommendations for the child/adolescent’s family, school, and other health care professionals regarding appropriate support.

Psychological Assessment

A Psychological assessment is primarily focused on social, emotional, and behavioral strengths and areas of concern. Through a psychological assessment, concerns are identified and a specific tailored plan is developed around the individual’s therapeutic needs.
